Meet Our Staff

Babak Jamasbi, MD, FACPM, QME, Co-Medical Director
Dr. Jamasbi is a graduate of The Maryland School of Medicine and previously held a position as Assistant Clinical Professor at Stanford Medical Center. He is a member of the International Associates for the Study of Pain, American Pain Society and the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is Board Certified with the American Board of Anesthesiology with added qualification on Pain Management and a member of  The American Board of Pain Medicine. Dr. Jamasbi is co-founder of the Northern California Functional Restoration Medical Group (2004-2005), as well as co-owner of the Pain and Rehabilitative Consultants Medical Group (PRC), in Oakland, CA from 1995 to present. Dr. Jamasbi specializes in the treatment of chronic and sub-acute pain.
Brendan P. Morley, MD, FACPM, APC, QME, Co-Medical Director
Dr. Morley is a graduate of the University of Los Angeles School of Medicine and received postgraduate training as a Fellow in Pain Management at the University of California at San Francisco, School of Medicine. He is a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain, American Pain Society, and the American Academy of Pain Management. Dr. Morley received a Certificate of Recognition for Support of Hospice in May 1998 from the California State Senate, and is certified with the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Pain Medicine. Dr. Morley has been in private practice since 1995 in the East Bay. Dr. Morley is co-founder of the Northern California Functional Restoration Medical Group (2004-2005), as well as co-owner of the Pain and Rehabilitative Consultants Medical Group, in Berkeley, CA from 1995 to present.
Dr. Timothy S. Lo, M.D., M.P.H
Dr. Lo is a graduate of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and completed his residency in Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center . He completed a fellowship in Pain Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School and is trained in interventional pain procedures. He is board certified in Neurology and performs electrodiagnostic studies (EMG/NCS). He received a Masters in Public Health from the University of California at Berkeley and is a medically-trained acupuncturist. He is a member of the American Pain Society, International Association for the Study of Pain, American Academy of Neurology, and the American Headache Society. He joined the Pain and Rehabilitative Consultants Medical Group in Oakland, CA in July 2007.
Jess Ghannam, PhD, Director Behavioral Medicine/Health Psychology
Dr. Ghannam is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, and received postdoctoral training as a Fellow in the Department of Psychology at Stanford University. Dr. Ghannam is a Member of the International Society for Psychotherapy Research and the American Psychological Association. Dr. Ghannam is the Director of the Northern California Functional Restoration Medical Group. Dr. Ghannam is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California at San Francisco, and currently directs the behavioral medicine psychology services at the Pain and Rehabilitative Consultants Medical Group in Berkeley, CA.
Bob Baker, PT, OCS, MBA
Bob Baker is a bachelors degree graduate of SUNY at Stony Brook, with Highest Honors in Physical Therapy in 1984. He worked at the UCLA Pain Management center treating chronic pain with a team of anesthesiologists, psychologists and physical medicine specialists and researched and published on myofascial pain. From 1990-92, Mr. Baker completed his MBA at the University of Chicago. He has completed three yearlong manual therapy programs, and a yearlong fellowship in function with the Gray Institute and Gary Gray, PT. Mr. Baker has worked with Novartis, and UPS where he developed wellness programs. His current focus is pain management, and functional restoration using principles of flexibility, strength training and movement efficiency. Mr. Baker's PT team also includes Laura Cabrera, PT, COMT, Steven T Garske, MS, PT and Mahsa Madera, MPT.
Mark Phillips, Physician Assistant/Nurse Practioner
Mark Phillips started his medical career as a Navy corpsman, completing nursing training in 1996. Mr. Phillips received a Physician Assistant Certificate from Stanford University in January 1999.
Mr. Phillips has worked with Pain and Rehabilitative Consultants Medical Group since 2003. Mr. Phillips is experienced with worker’s compensation patients, and has worked extensively with Dr. Ghannam, Dr. Morley and Dr. Jamasbi providing exceptional cost effective care to chronic pain patients.
Kathryn Bender, BCIAC, SF:
Ms. Bender is a Nationally Certified Biofeedback practioner with more than 20 years of experience working in multi-disciplinary treatment centers with individuals experiencing chronic pain from musculoskeletal and nerve injuries. She specializes in developing and implementing individualized training protocols with long term focus on regaining function and reducing symptoms through workstyle changes. Ms. Bender is skilled at developing protocols for interdisciplinary pain treatment in conjunction with occupational and physical therapist and has developed workstation biofeedback courses.
